Cover of Fargo (Special Edition)
It was Sunday two weeks ago, chilly and gray, and the Lone Wolf and I padded briskly up the rue des Pyrénées. We walked past the market where two lovely women sell their homemade baguettes, cakes, and tarts. Man, are they good!
We walked by streets where young designers and artists have started businesses. And suddenly we found ourselves at the scene of a whir and blur of activity.
There were men in trees.
And men on the ground.
A big crew of tree-trimmers were giving the plane trees their winter haircut.
And then they were stuffing the branches and leaves in the wood-chipper to mulch it up. (And no, there weren't any dead bodies being chopped up like in the Coen Brothers' movie Fargo.)
They were Wham, Bam, Cut 'em Down! And by the time we came back, the crew was finished and gone.
